How to Capture IPv6 Traffic

Recall that each Ethernet frame contains an "ethertype" parameter.  The
ethertype for IPv6 traffic is 86dd.  Similarly, IPv4 is 0800.  To monitor
all Ethernet traffic that contains IPv6, you would use one of these:

`tethereal ip6`
`tcpdump ip6`
`snoop ipv6`

If you get an error, you should ensure that the binary you are executing
was compiled with support for IPv6.



Interestingly, (which means I don't understand why), you can try to capture
by explicitly defining the ethertype, but it doesn't seem to work:

[root@linux root]# tethereal -R "eth.type == 86dd"
tethereal: "86dd" cannot be found among the possible values for eth.type.
[root@linux root]# tethereal -R "eth.type == 0800"
tethereal: "0800" cannot be found among the possible values for eth.type.
[root@linux root]#
